Fourth Degree
Fourth Degree Knights are the most visible members of the Knights of Columbus, known for their distinctive regalia and service as honor guards at Church and civic events. But their identity goes far deeper than ceremony.
They are Catholic men who embrace the Order’s fourth principle — patriotism — and work to support veterans, active‑duty military, and their families. Those who join the Fourth Degree receive the title “Sir Knight” and become part of a local Assembly dedicated to promoting faithful citizenship and service.
A signature initiative of the Fourth Degree is Serving Those Who Served, which provides volunteer support to Veterans Affairs facilities nationwide. Sir Knights also assist seminarians preparing to become military chaplains through a dedicated scholarship program.
Honor Flight
Each year, Council 1143, in partnership with the Edwardsville Moose Lodge, hosts the Hops & Heroes beer‑tasting fundraiser—an event dedicated to celebrating community, service, and gratitude. The proceeds directly support the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight, helping send local veterans to Washington, D.C. to experience the war memorials built in their honor. This annual tradition reflects our shared commitment to recognizing the sacrifices of those who served and ensuring they receive a meaningful and memorable visit to our nation’s capital.
U.S.O
Councill 1143 and Assembly 225 hold vaiours fund raisers during the year to financially support teh U.S.O. faciliaty at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
Flags at Cemetery
In collaboration with the parish Boy Scout Council, the Edwardsville Knights of Columbus place American flags on the graves of fallen veterans each Memorial Day weekend at St. Boniface and St. Mary’s cemeteries.
Flag Retirement
Council 1143 maintains a year‑round collection of worn or damaged American flags. As Flag Day approaches on June 14, the council partners with the parish Boy Scout Troop to ensure these flags are retired with the proper respect and ceremony.
